Favorite Children's Book

My favorite children's book is Spoon written and illustrated by Amy Krouse Rosenthal and Scott Magoon.  The story gives the perspective of a spoon and his personal feelings about himself in comparison to a fork, knife, and chopsticks.  Spoon feels that the other utensils are better than him because they can do things that he can not do.  For example, a knife can cut, but he cannot.  Spoon's mother throughout the story reassures him how special he is for just being a spoon as well as informs him that other utensils are jealous of him being a spoon because he can be used to eat soup or cereal.  I love this book because all children are unique and are put here on Earth to serve a special purpose unbeknownst to them.  In addition, this story allows me to open up conversation with children about similarities and differences in people, places, and things in such a way that they better understand that we all are different in our own way and we are loved for being who we are.
